Barrie Police Service

Originally from Ottawa, Ont., Insp. Peter Dewsnap commenced his career in policing in 1994 with the Barrie Police Service. After attending the Ontario Police College, he became a constable and was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. As a constable, Peter worked in several areas including General Patrol, Foot Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Property Crime, Drug Enforcement, Street Crime, and Organized Crime.

Peter was promoted to sergeant in 2007 and then to staff sergeant in 2011 where he worked in Operational Services, Community Services Unit, Communications, and Investigative Services. He was promoted to inspector in 2016. As an inspector, he has worked in Corporate/Executive Services and his current assignment in Investigative Services.

Peter is currently a member of several OACP (Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police) committees, as well as several volunteer community committees in the City of Barrie.

Peter is a graduate of Carleton University with degrees in psychology and sociology with a concentration in criminology. Peter has continued his education throughout his career, obtaining a certificate in police leadership from Dalhousie University.

In 2015, Peter attended the FBI's National Academy in Quantico, Va., and received a graduate certificate in criminal justice education from the University of Virginia.
