Mike WoodWith 26 years in the fire service, Mike is a very proud member of The City of Toronto Fire Services. Mike started on a small rural fire service and gained employment shortly after in the city of Scarborough.
Firefighters are constantly being asked to assist individuals to become firefighters. Mike started researching the "science" of recruitment, resumes and interviews. After 5 years of in-depth research Mike produced models for interview prep, resumes, cover letters and habits candidates can use to be successful in their pursuit of a career in the emergency services.
Mike was the first member of TFS to join the City of Toronto Profession to Profession Mentoring Program. The challenges and rewards of that program led to focusing mentoring activities entirely on the fire service. Candidates find the path to becoming a firefighter daunting and can be overwhelming not to mention very costly. Providing individuals with encouragement, direction and helping them gain the necessary skills to land a position in the "Best Job in the World" is a large challenge and a great reward!
Mike Wood is an acting captain and he is the Program Coordinator at Centennial College in the Pre-Service Firefighting program. Trained as an Advanced Level CBRNE responder, Mike is also a Shift Training Instructor in various disciplines of fire ground operations.
