Mark Herwartz

Waterloo Regional Police Service

Const. Mark Herwartz was born and raised in Germany, where he attended law school before practicing civil litigation, private bankruptcy law and labour & employment law.

He immigrated to Canada in December 2010. Pursuing his passion for helping others, Const. Herwartz joined the Waterloo Regional Police Service in April 2011.

He has served in a variety of areas, including Patrol, CORE, General Investigations and Human Resources. He has also worked on various committees within the service, including the Investigative Review committee and Data Integrity committee. Giving back to the community he serves is very important to Const. Herwartz and, as such, he volunteers his time with the Cops and Youth program, the Ambassador program, and the Citizens Police Academy. He also takes part in outreach programs with new Canadians.

As a recruiter within Waterloo Regional Police Service, Const. Herwartz conducts interview prep sessions at colleges and universities, screens applications, and interviews applicants. He takes great pride in hiring the best people to represent Waterloo Region – and likes to have a little fun along the way. His unique and forward-thinking attempts to hiring led to him playing an instrumental role in developing a "surprise job offer" video to a Conestoga College student that went viral. Watch it here:
