Neil Sutton, Editor, Canadian Security Keynote Presenter: Carmela Demkiw
During her policing career, Carmela Demkiw spent 14 years at the Toronto Police Service, ultimately serving as a detective in the fraud office. She transitioned into the private sector in 2002, joining TD Bank as an investigator, where she worked for 11 years, and then Rogers Communications as the company's senior director of corporate security services. Carmela will share her journey from policing to security, and the life and business lessons she has learned along the way.About Our Keynote Speaker
Carmela Demkiw is a security professional with 30 years’ experience. Carmela started her career in law enforcement with the Toronto Police Service. She worked in a uniform capacity, drug enforcement and detective command. In 1999 she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and managed a platoon at 51 division. She left TPS as a Detective in the Fraud Squad Organized Gang Section after 14 and a half years with the service. Carmela joined the TD Bank Corporate Security Department in 2002 as a Senior Investigator. She was promoted to Manager, Visa and Debit Investigations and in 2011 to AVP Investigative Services for Canada. While at TD, Carmela was declared an expert in ATM and Point of Sale tampering and holds her ACAMS designation. In 2016, Carmela joined Rogers Communications as the Senior Director Corporate Security Services. Her new position brings together the four security groups at Rogers of Investigations, Physical Security, Retail Loss Prevention and Lawful Access Response. She is tasked with the end-to-end alignment of security, building the team and maturing the security culture at Rogers.
